Anaplasma phagocytophilum is an intracellular bacteria with tropism for hematopoietic cells.
Anaplasmosis is a tick-borne disease which occurs in animals and in humans. In Europe it is transmitted by bloodsucking Ixodes ricinus. Wild and domestic animals can be reservoir of this microorganism. Clinically anaplasmosis is characterized by fever, apathy and mucosal bleeding but these symptoms are not specifi c. Hematological examination may reveal thrombocytopenia.
In this article specifi c hematological features of granulocytic anaplasmosis were described.
